Our Participation in the Columbus School Model UN

Our students who are part of the Model United Nations participated in the Model UN event held on the Columbus School campus in Medellín from March 5 to March 8.

Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation of the United Nations system in which high school and university students participate as delegates of UN member states. They engage in debates and negotiations on topics related to the agendas of various UN bodies and committees.

During the Model UN, students act as delegates representing different member states of the UN. They analyze economic, social, cultural, and political conflicts and, through dialogue, propose solutions. This process helps them develop research, writing, negotiation, and persuasion skills in a diplomatic environment that promotes tolerance and respect.

Through this experience, we aim to instill Global Citizenship and Critical Thinking skills in our students, fostering leadership qualities in young individuals.

In the most recent MUN, organized by Columbus School in Medellín, our delegation consisted of 18 students from both Middle School and High School. They participated in various committees, including the Security Council, the Paris Peace Conference, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS), the Historical Committee, the Extraordinary Historical Committee, the Human Rights Council (HRC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

Additionally, they represented various nations and historical figures such as the French Republic, India, Robert Lansing, U.S. attorneys and judges, Lev Kamenev, Alexandra Kollontai, the People’s Republic of China, Turkey, Canada, the Russian Federation, the Italian Republic, and the Republic of Korea (South Korea).

At the end of the event, our students received the following recognitions:

Honorable Mention – Sara Mejía (Italian Republic & Republic of Korea)
