Colegio Bolívar continues to strengthen its commitment to the social-emotional development of its students. Aware that parenting is not easy—and that it is full of challenges, doubts, and moments that invite families to grow—the institution has earned certification in Conscious Discipline, an approach based on emotional safety, connection, and self-regulation as foundations for learning and human relationships.
On November 13, the school held its first Conscious Discipline workshop with Middle School parents—a space for connection, listening, and reflection on what it means to accompany children through a stage as change-filled as adolescence.
During the workshop, participants reflected on essential questions that can transform their relationship with teenagers:
• How am I feeling at this moment?
• What might my child be feeling?
• How do these emotions influence the way we talk and connect?
• How can we be responsive rather than reactive to the emotional ups and downs of this stage?
• How can we stay calm when faced with rebellion, sharp responses, or constant changes?
While the answers are not always simple, the workshop emphasized that it is possible to support teens successfully when we remember that love—unconditional and firm love, grounded in presence and clear boundaries—can serve as a compass during challenging moments.
Within the framework of Conscious Discipline, participants explored tools to strengthen their ability to recognize emotions, respond with empathy, and build safer, more connected relationships at home. Families shared experiences, questions, and insights, reminding one another that no one receives a parenting manual, that everyone is learning as they go, and that growing as parents is an ongoing process.
The school celebrates the participation of so many committed families, willing to reflect on these topics, practice new skills, and work together with the school to build a community that teaches from the heart.
