Leadership and Participation: This Is How the 2025 Student Government Elections Were Experienced

At Colegio Bolívar, we lived another democratic day with the election of our Student Government representatives—an event that, as Jonathan Roberts, our High School Principal, expressed, is much more than just a vote:
“Democracy is an opportunity to have a voice, to freely express our ideas, and to learn to respect and value all the candidates who dared to take this step.”

This exercise represents the first political-electoral experience for our students, where they learn about the importance of free and transparent elections, respect for others, and the responsibility of choosing leaders who represent shared goals.

This year’s results were:

  • Agustín Garcés González (High School) – Student Representative (Personero)

  • Santiago Caicedo Lloreda (High School) – Student Comptroller

  • Carlos Jorge Garcés González (Middle School) – President of the Student Council

  • Cristóbal Cabrera Claussen (Middle School) – Vice President of the Student Council

Some of the proposals presented during the student campaigns reflected valuable concerns and initiatives, including reducing wait times in the cafeteria lines, improving communication between administrators and students, strengthening school entrepreneurship projects, increasing sports recognition, and improving the infrastructure of certain school areas.

In addition, this election also featured the candidacies of Sofía Ramos (Personera) and María Escobar (Comptroller), as well as María Paula González (Personera) and Sebastián Figueredo (Comptroller), who, like the elected students, demonstrated leadership, commitment, and a strong sense of responsibility.

The Student Representative (Personero)—a role established in the Colombian Constitution—is a senior student elected democratically to promote the duties and rights of the student body. Their mission includes ensuring mutual respect between teachers and students and presenting relevant petitions to the principal.

Meanwhile, the Student Comptroller, a position created by Law 2195 of 2022, aims to promote transparency, civic participation, and the protection of public goods within the school setting. This student not only oversees the use of school resources but also inspires peers to be responsible citizens committed to building a better society.

At the national level, the election of personeros, comptrollers, and student representatives is part of a democratic process that involves more than 8 million children and young people across Colombia each year—strengthening a culture of leadership and active citizenship from the classroom.

We congratulate our representatives and all the candidates for their courage, commitment, and example. Beyond defining leaders, this process strengthens democratic life and the sense of community within our school.
